Vivianne Miedema Joins Manchester City

Vivianne Miedema joins Manchester City: Big transfer news as Vivianne Miedema signs with Arsenal’s WSL rivals Manchester City

Following the news that Arsenal had not offered WSL all-time goalscorer a new contract, it has been announced that she will join WSL rivals Man City. Miedema joins City after 7 years at Arsenal, where she made 106 appearances and scored 80 goals.

City fans took to social media to share their excitement at the prospect of seeing Miedema link up with last season’s WSL top scorer Khadija Shaw. Last season, City agonisingly missed out on the WSL trophy on goal difference to Chelsea.

Miedema struggled for game time in the closing part of the season following her recovery from her ACL injury. Pictures of a perceived altercation with Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall emerged on social media in the weeks leading up to the end of her career. While neither party commented on the footage, from the outside it appeared that the relationship was not on ideal terms.

The Netherlands striker will now face her former team in the WSL and she will also be hoping to help City to a successful Champions League run. She won’t have to wait long to see her team mates as the opening fixture of the 2024/25 season is Arsenal v Manchester City. The match takes place at the Emirates Stadium, in what is sure to be an emotional homecoming for Miedema.
