Jenni Hermoso signs for Tigres

Spain World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso stay in Mexico and signs for Tigres.

2023 has been quite a year for Jenni Hermoso but it hasn’t been all plain-sailing. In the summer of 2022, she failed to agree a new contract with Barcelona and also suffered an injury that would keep her out of the Euros 2022. After finishing runner up to Alexia Putellas in the Ballon d’Or the previous year, 2022 was a testing period for Spain’s all-time top goalscorer. When she announced that she was moving to Mexico to play in Liga MX Femenil with Pachuca, it came as a surprise.

However, Hermoso enjoyed a great spell at the club, helping her team to the Apertura playoffs and forming a high-scoring partnership with Charlyn Corral. As Hermoso headed into the summer of 2023, she was in confident form, which showed in her string of top performances that helped Spain to win the World Cup in Australia.

The World Cup victory was unfortunately overshadowed by the behaviour of RFEF president Luis Rubiales who kissed Jenni Hermoso without consent as the players collected their winners’ medals. The now famous incident is currently going through the Spanish courts.

Following Spain’s World Cup victory, there was much speculation as to whether Hermoso would return to Spain, with rumoured interest from her childhood team, Atletico Madrid.

Jenni Hermoso starts new challenge at Tigres

However, 6 times Liga MX Femenil champions Tigres have announced the signing of Hermoso as they embark on another season of chasing silverware.

Jenni Hermoso won the Champions League with Barcelona, recently won the Silver Ball at the World Cup and is Spain’s all-time top goalscorer. She is an exciting acquisition to a team who already has winning pedigree throughout their ranks.
