Arsenal 6 – 0 Rangers: Gunners Progress in UWCL

Arsenal 6 – 0 Rangers Match Report: Arsenal hit Rangers for six in dominant Champions League clash.

After suffering a shock early exit in last season’s Champions League qualification round to Paris FC, Arsenal were keen to avoid a repeat.

From the first whistle, Arsenal looked threatening and in control. With Champions League winner Mariona Caldentey making her first competitive start for the club, Caitlin Foord moved over to the right wing and what a performance she delivered. Foord left Meadow Park clutching the match ball after a haul of four goals.

Foord’s first came from an excellent Caldentey delivery, powering a header home from a seemingly impossible angle. Her second was an easier chance after Kim Little found her in the box before she dispatched the ball past the Rangers goalkeeper.

An impressive strike from Alessia Russo put Arsenal 3-0 up just before the 60-minute mark. Foord’s hat trick was sealed in style, skillfully volleying a McCabe cross to ensure the game was put to bed. There was more misery for Rangers as they gave a penalty away, with the ever-reliable Little converting from the spot. Foord rounded off a special night by scoring Arsenal’s sixth. The result secured a place in the First Round finals on Saturday against Rosenborg.
