Lioness Mary Earps signs for PSG on free transfer from Manchester United
The Mary Earps transfer saga finally concludes, with PSG announcing her 2-year contract at the Paris club. Having been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in th last two transfer windows, Earps has put pen to paper with the Première Ligue team.
After five years at Manchester United, Earps decided to embark on a new challenge in France. Earps has won the European Championship with England and collected the Golden Glove trophy as they finished runners up to Spain in the the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In her parting message to Manchester United fans, she cited that:
“The club is about to undergo a period of transition, and unfortunately I don’t feel it aligns with the timing of where I’m at in my career. I think now is the right time to make a change and embark on a new challenge.”
Earps brings a wealth of goalkeeping experience to PSG, who will be hoping she can help them to overhaul league rivals Lyon.
United’s Transition Period
United lost Alessia Russo last season and club captain Katie Zelem has also left the club, leaving fans concerned about the direction the women’s team is going in under the Ineos Group. It was recently announced that the Manchester United women’s team will vacate their purpose-built training complex to make way for the men’s side. Club stakeholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe was also quoted as looking to focus on the ‘first team’.
With United losing key playing personnel following a poor league performance, it looks like it could be a difficult time for fans of Manchester United Women.
