Juan Rubiales Dismissal Ruled Appropriate

The RFEF has been under scrutiny for many years, with claims about corruption and many other stories tarnishing the reputation of the federation. Today, 13 June 2023, justice declares the dismissal of Juan Rubiales as appropriate. The uncle of current RFEF President, Luis Rubiales had filed a lawsuit against RFEF after they dismissed him.

The RFEF has shared a statement on their website that confirms that the Social Court of Madrid has dismissed Mr Juan Rubiales’ lawsuit against the federal entity. The evidence gathered in the investigation confirmed that Rubiales had carried out irregular and illicit behaviours during his position at RFEF.

Spain’s women’s football team have famously been involved in a movement for change under RFEF, with 15 players initially writing to RFEF asking to not be selected until certain changes were made. The hierarchy at RFEF is often at the centre of controversy, and the investigation into the actions of Juan Rubiales’ is just one example of what has been happening behind the scenes.

Spain’s chances at the Women’s World Cup had been thrown into turmoil, with uncertainty over which players would travel to Australia and New Zealand, with Vilda refusing to stand down. Most of the players have returned to the WWC squad announced this week, including Bonmati, Putellas and Hermoso.

However, some top players are missing in the omission of Leon, Patri and Panos. Judicial action against the Rubiales family could pave the way to a brighter future for Spain’s women’s team and the support that they are provided from RFEF.
